CFL Week 12 Picks
Posted by at 3:54 pmThings are busy here around CFT so posts are slow. Thats putting it mildly. Next week should get back to normal. Or as normal as we once were. As for the picks, we got a lot better this week. Myself, I went 4-0 and CFT contributor Colin Folk went 3-1. Still a big gap for me to close so I may have to take some chances down the stretch. Just maybe not this week.
Edmonton Eskimos at Hamilton Tigercats
Schmidt: Two teams looking to get back on track. I see the Tigercats in a dogfight out East with the Als and Bombers and are motivated to keep pace. The Eskimos are getting healthy again slowly but have regressed from their early season play and the Esks will struggle to contain the Tigercat pass rush.
Tigercats 33, Eskimos 24
Folk: This game will see two teams who were blown away in their games last week. Hamilton still plays excellent for stretches ansd then fall right out of rythm the next week. Chris Williams remains electric but goes week to week with his production. Eskimos are going to get better with the return of Stamps. They need to focus on the run game as teams are expecting the pass and sitting on routes. I expect some 3rd down trickery and some carnival plays to determine the winner in this one.
Eskimos 25, Tigercats 23
Toronto Argonauts at Saskatchewan Roughriders
Schmidt: The Roughriders are on a roll. The Argonauts are still struggling. Jyles will add a spark but there is just not enough there to get it done. The Riders are playing desperate football already and are playing like every game is a playoff game at this point. Fantuz will slowly become a bigger part of the offence and could make a difference this week.
Roughriders 35, Argonauts 26
Folk: Jyles returns to Mosiac where he was a back up in his career. The Argos are a work in progress again as they use their 3rd starter at QB this season. The Riders are confident and rolling as Ken Miller has his team looking towards a huge playoff run in search of their 3rd Grey Cup appearance in a row. With Fantuz back Dressler and Getzlaf had way more field to work with. The defence is rounding into shape and this team looks like themselves again. The Argos get sunk in Regina.
Roughriders 36, Argonauts 19
BC Lions at Calgary Stampeders
Schmidt: The Stampeders are the class of the West right now but will face a team that is playing desperate football, much like Saskatchewan. Lulay needs to take his game to the next level to make this team a contender. But I don’t see it happening this week. The Stamps are playing tough and should take this one home.
Stampeders 36, Lions 26
Folk: This will be the game of the week in the CFL. Calgary looked awesome last week and are poised for 1st place finish in the west if they handle business in their remaining games. B.C. seems to be building in confidence and Lulay is getting better with every snap. This is a must watch as the Stamps squeak out one at home.
Stampeders 32, Lions 28
Winnipeg Blue Bombers at Montreal Alouettes
Schmidt: The Bombers will be looking to get on track but they have not looked like the same team the last couple of games. The offence is not a threat and Buck Pierce is getting punished. If the defence does not get their aggressiveness back soon, it will be a long second half of the season.
Alouettes 30, Blue Bombers 20
Folk: The Bombers flat out got their butts handed to them in the home and home with the Riders. Pierce continually puts his career on the line with poor decisions and taking big hits. The Bombers have some injuries to deal with and it is not going to get any easier in Montreal. Old faithful A.C. contiues to win games. The Als have been able to move on from early injury issues and looked really confident last week against the Ticats. I look for a a hard hitting win by the Als.
Alouettes 34, Blue Bombers 23
Season Series
Folk: 21-19
Schmidt: 17-24
