Eskimos Bring Back Ricky Ray
Posted by at 2:05 pmAfter a tough 2010 for Ricky Ray that included a decline in play due in part to injuries, lack of protection to go along with lack of talent around him, and added playing time to young QB Jared Zabransky, many thought this was the end of the Ricky Ray era in Edmonton.
To put an end to that, Eric Tillman announced that the Edmonton Eskimos have re-signed Ricky Ray through the 2013 season. in 2010 Ray threw for 3565 yards and 11 touchdowns. Not known for his running abilities, Ray also added 302 yards rushing and 3 touchdowns through the ground.
Ray goes into the 2011 season as the Eskimos leader in career completions (2882), yards (35,935) and passing touchdowns (186).
Ray had been making $500,000 per year and reportedly took a $100,000 paycut to stay in Edmonton. Thats still alot of money for a quarterback who has seen his play decline recently. Its hard to imagine another team offering Ray $400,000 for the next three seasons. Although Edmonton would have alot of question marks at quarterback if Ray had not been brought back. The veteran leader will help a young and developing offense.
