Paul LaPolice’s Wife Wanders Into Bombers-Tigercats Trash-Talking

Posted by at 8:09 am

The week leading up to the match between the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and Hamilton Tigercats has been full of players talking back and forth after some Tigercats poked fun at the Bombers use of “Swaggerville” as their nickname. The lastest has come from an unlikely source.

Tina LaPolice, the wife of head coach Paul LaPolice, has a twitter account of her own. And this week she used it to fire a shot back at the Tigercats:

“Ti-Cats Stala no fan of Swaggerville. “We’ll see what they call themselves after the game.” We’ll see hacky sack boy!”

This after Tigercats receiver Dave Stala, among others, spoke out about the Blue Bombers nickname.

“This Swagger thing is kind of funny to me. What — they need to give themselves a name or something? I guess we’re Steeltown — we know who we are. It’s a cartoon or something over there. But I don’t really concentrate on that stuff. They can call themselves whatever they want. We’ll see what they call themselves after the game.”, said Stala.

The Bombers had mostly ignored the chatter coming out of Hamilton, perhaps under orders from the head coach, who had told the team players would be fined that publicly taunted the other team through the media. But then a response came from the unlikey source, Tina LaPolice.

It quickly caught the attention of the media and was widely reported around the league.

As Paul Wiecek of the Winnipeg Free Press explained, Lapolice himself laughed it off but explained he would discuss the trash-talking with his wife.

“My wife is obviously the head coach of our organization,” LaPolice joked during his regular pre-game news conference at Canad Inns Stadium Thursday afternoon, “so I had to talk to her a little bit about that we don’t really need to do that talk,” LaPolice said. ”We’ll keep working (with her) through the media training that we do with our players.”

Tina LaPolice eventually removed the tweet and blocked some media from viewing her twitter feed.

Its all fun. Probably even garnered a few laughs around both teams. But it seems to be the kind of thing coach LaPolice does not allow his team to get drawn into. So we likely won’t hear trash-talking coming from family anymore.
