Saturday Linebacker CFL E-Camp Round-up

Posted by at 12:36 am

As detailed in an earlier post, Henoc Muamba ran away with honors as best linebacker at first day of CFL e-camp workouts.

Muamba, the St. FX linebacker, led all linebackers in every workout by a wide margin. To go along with his athleticism and strength he has ideal linebacker size. Large hands and a tremendous reach should keep Muamba in the first round of the upcoming draft unless he completely falters in Sundays workouts.

Saskatchewan linebacker Peter Thiel had a strong performance Saturday. Finishing second to Muamba in the bench press, he had a 32″ vertical and a 9’2 broad jump. A big linebacker, a good 40 yard dash will keep him among the top.

Jeffrey Hecht, Saint Mary’s, finished 3rd amongst linebackers in all three workouts today. The only knock against Hecht is his size and reach as he is a little on the small side, but fast times tomorrow will help his stock.

Manitoba linebacker Thomas Hall had measurements that placed him second among LBs in both the vertical leap and broad jump. His 10 reps in the bench press though put him last and is what will hold him back. Has big size and a good reach.

John Surla from Western Ontario had a good vertical jump of 32″ that placed him third but a second last bench press placing and second last broad jump will hurt. Big hands but short arms.

Lastly, Chris Burnett out of York had last place finishes in the linebacking group in both the vertical jump and broad jump. A fourth place finish of 13 reps in the bench press doesn’t help alot. He has good size and great big hands and a good reach but he will need great times tomorrow to increase his standing.
